The Chemical Process Engineer for the DuPont Fluoroproducts - Washington Works site located in Parkersburg, WV, will support plant improvement initiatives in the production of fluoropolymers. The Washington Works plant is one of several DuPont Fluoroproducts manufacturing plants worldwide. The site has over 2,000 employees and makes a variety of products. Fluoropolymers Solution at Washington Works, WV operates multiple Teflon® production lines which are directed towards high value-in use fluoropolymers that are consumed internally and sold externally. Market demand is very high for these products.



The Chemical Process Engineer will provide day-to-day technical assistance to operations including quality control, process efficiency, troubleshooting, process/equipment reliability, solution of process problems, identifying and implementing process improvements, and system improvement projects for longer-term polymerization, finishing and extrusion process improvements. The engineer will also support safety, environmental, cost, and quality improvements for the process area of responsibility which may include some off-hours work. While this job will be mainly focused on the manufacturing support at Washington Works, collaboration with DuPont internal sister sites (e.g. in the Netherlands and Japan) is expected.



Job Functions: Lead and/or participate on project teams and/or process improvement teams to improve yield, quality, reduce cost, and improve production uptime.

Troubleshoot process upsets and quality issues

Assist with new product developmentFunction as technical liaison between manufacturing, project and maintenance organizations

Assure environmental compliance and continued product stewardship

Monitor production performance and correct trends or changes in process performance

Implement programs to improve process consistency through upgrades and small capital project implementation.






REQUIREMENTS


A BS or MS in Chemical Engineering coupled with four to five years experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is required. Educational focus on unit operations and/or polymer science is a plus



Desired necessary skill sets include the following:

Knowledge of chemical processes and methodologies applicable to a manufacturing setting

Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, analyze process upsets and implement process improvements

Process manufacturing experience in production - particularly for highly hazardous processes

Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM)

Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools as well as strong oral and written communication skills

Must work well in both self-managed and team environment with great attention to detail

Demonstrated leadership skills that allow productive, collaborative relationships with inside/outside customers, vendors, operations, mechanical and technical personnel

Experience with safety, environmental, and quality initiatives such as Process Hazard Analysis(PHA) support, etc.
