Design/Build/Property ManagementLearn the lay of the land. This team is about finding great locations, then creating and maintaining our buildings. You'll also create guest-pleasing in-store plans.Purpose Provides fire sprinkler system expertise to Target Corporation. Resolves water supply and sprinkler system design and Fire Code issues for new and remodel stores. Identifies cost effective methods for new store fire protection and alarm system construction. Provides direction and guidance to fire sprinkler contractors and project teams.

Fire Code and Fire Standard Resource: Serves as resource to Target Store Design, Construction, Real Estate and Building Services on all sprinkler system and water supply issues. Responsible for having a solid working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 20, NFPA 25, NFPA 72, FM standards, UFC, IFC and National Building Code sections addressing fire protection and sprinkler systems.
Support During Construction: Prepares engineering documents for Changes required for construction document clarification or store specific change including prototype change that requires store specific adaptation. Provides clarification for OSRs. Provides limited site observation during construction.
Support Owner Purchased Fire Pump Program: Assures quality control for store specific fire pump packaged systems. Responsible for fire pump submittal process. Approves all fire pump systems for production and addresses field issues as required. Interfaces with Target Procurement and fire pump manufacturer to ensure Target Corporation expectations are met.
AHJ Interface: Assists store design teams in complying with local sprinkler system and fire alarm requirements. Communicates with AHJ's as required to ensure that store specific design meets expectations of AHJ's and Target Corporation. Approves modification of prototype store specific sprinkler design when required to meet site specific conditions. Ensures Target Risk Management and Target's insurance representatives are in agreement with any deviations from Target standards.
Contractor Interface: Assists General Contractors and Subcontractors with interpretation of code and Target criteria for store specific design. Provides analysis of water flow data and sprinkler hydraulic calculations to resolve water supply issues.
Alarm System Interface: Interfaces with fire alarm systems designers for prototype and store specific designs. Ensures fire alarm systems are compatible with other building fire protection systems.
Update Prototype Documents: Maintains cost effective prototype sprinkler and fire pump design to be used for new and remodel stores based on current building codes and standards as well as Target Corporation's Risk Management criteria. Interfaces with fire pump vendor to ensure fire pump package design is accurately represented in prototype documents.
Risk Management Interface: Provides technical assistance to Target Risk Management and Target Insurance representatives. Responsible for defining the fire sprinkler drawing review process through Target Insurance representatives and Store design teams. Interfaces regularly with Target Risk Management to ensure Target standards are enforced.
Participation in Change Management. Provides prototype studies and implements changes to construction documents on agreed upon schedule. Provides support to team members in Architecture/Engineering, Store Planning, Real Estate, and Construction.
Job RequirementsMinimum Requirements:
Bachelors of engineering degree from ABET accredited program and 5 years in a consulting or contracting firm with responsibility for producing design of building fire sprinkler and/or Fire Alarm systems.
5 years experience in a consulting or contracting firm with responsibility for producing design of building fire sprinkler and/or Fire Alarm systems
Minimum 3 years of construction site field experience and/or field observation experience with building sprinkler system and/or Fire Alarm construction

Desired RequirementsRetail store design experience
NICET IV Certification
Participation in technical and professional societies
MicroStation CAD experience
Engineering license or ability to become licensed within 1 year
