Field Engineers & Technicians

A field engineer / technician will need to be able to support a customer through phone, email, fax, and onsite in all aspects of a customer problem on a delivered system. The FE or FT will receive a trouble call from the customer, try to help the customer resolve the problem by him or herself, if beyond the skill of that person, the candidate will need to be able to coordinate activities within the different groups (digital, RF, software, and systems engineering) to get the customer's problem resolved. The FE / FT will need to be able to use a database to record all activities on the customer's problems. If the repair requires additional funding beyond the scope of the existing contract, the FE will need to generate a proposal to accommodate the additional work. The FE will also need to generate revenue for the company by keeping the customer informed on technology refreshments / upgrades that are possible in order to keep their system running for years to come. The FE / FT will also need to generate the proposal to bring the work in.

REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:

1) Software / computer - Unix based
- UNIX prompt command knowledge - will be required or be able to learn
- knowledge in environment variables, directory structures, basic computer hardware knowledge (hard drives, mother board, memory…), etc.

- networking systems
- loading software

2) Digital - both old and new technologies
- the candidate will need to troubleshoot down to the Line Replicable Unit (LRU) but it would help to understand digital logic

- use of tools such as an oscilloscope, multi meter, and logic analyzer
- logic gates
- soldering experience (will need to get solder certified in this position)
- basic digital knowledge such as Ohm's law, etc.

3) RF - General knowledge of RF components and how they operate
- knowledge of decibel's
- test equipment experience - Spectrum analyzer, power meter, frequency counter, vector network analyzer, synthesizer, etc.

- different types of RF modulation effects
- component knowledge such as band pass filters, oscillators, digitally controlled attenuators, vector modulators, I/Q modulators, different types of antenna's

- propagation effects, Doppler effects, etc.

4) System -
- use of computer aided testing at a system level
- past troubleshooting experience - to the LRU or to the component

5) EW / Radar specific
- Different types of radar scans
- antenna patterns
- modulation effects
