Environmental Manager
Company: North America Mining Job Function: Engineering And Architectural Job Description: Major Responsibilities Under general direction plans, organizes, manages and controls the environmental programs and systems for assigned site.
1. Develops, implements and assesses environmental safety, remediation and reclamation programs.
2. Directs, develops, and monitors environmental practices for the site.
3. Responsible for environmental compliance at assigned site. Reports compliance issues and makes recommendations to site management for correction.
4. Oversees or investigates and maintains records of environmental incidents and responses as required by law.
5. Ensures that all training mandated by EPA, DEQ or other body is provided and updated as appropriate. Serves as primary contact with EPA, DEQ and other regulatory bodies.
6. Contributes to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for environmental systems and issues.
7. Evaluates and contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment.
8. Provides guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations.
9. Provides leadership and work direction, and evaluates the performance of subordinate environmental staff.
10. Represents site on company-sponsored steering teams, e.g. PDMC Environmental Steering Team.
11. Performs other duties as required.Minimum Requirements
Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field.
Ten years of broad-based environmental management experience, including supervisory or management experience.
Advanced knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, incident investigation and reporting protocols. As well as applicable Federal, State and local laws, ordinances, statues, regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
Skilled in analyzing a wide range of soil, water and air samples and able to recognize environmental hazards.
Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
Skilled in supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingCriteria/Conditions(specific background and skills) Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday.
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
