Environmental Health and Safety
Purpose: ONLY CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS APPLY! Must be Bilingual - Spanish Under general supervision the Environmental Health and Safety Manager will develop, implement, and administer policies and programs to establish and promote maintenance of safety, environmental compliance and healthy working conditions within the company. Will also ensure company facilities and practices are in compliance with government and corporate safety and environmental regulations and minimize exposure to environmental hazards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and recommend company-wide safety training programs and programs for complying with laws and regulations regarding safe handling, Right-to-Know, storage and disposal of hazardous and contaminated wastes and chemicals.
Identify and define emerging environmental issues, and develop goals and objectives for environmental compliance planning.
Maintain written Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and ensure all program requirements are met.
Maintain and update all Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) books in compliance with OSHA regulations and manage the hazardous chemical communication program, including ongoing training of appropriate personnel.
Develop, implement, and maintain safety recognition and awards programs.
Promote company-wide safety and health awareness through internal memoranda, bulletins, postings and notices.
Develop and maintain job hazard analyses for designated job classifications.
Maintain employee safety and training records.
Maintain and update Emergency Plans and procedures for all facilities as required.
Prepare and submit government mandated reports including industrial surveys and reports.
Conduct and manage environment, and health/safety audits.
Serve as liaison with Masco Environmental, Health & Safety Department.
Complete or verify accuracy and timely filing of injury reports and near-misses, OSHA reports, and related reports and records.
Audit facility practices and records periodically to ensure compliance with company programs and state/federal occupational safety/health and environmental regulations.
Advise and assist other departments in the implementation of programs to ensure compliance with air and water pollution control regulations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting with emphasis on environmental, health and safety administration.
Thorough knowledge of safety policies, practices, and procedures and hazardous material handling and emergency response procedures.
Knowledge of health and safety programs and occupational risks.
Knowledge of the federal and state Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Familiarity with manufacturing and distribution practices and procedures.
Knowledge of adult learning principles and training methods.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, and private and public representatives.
Ability to develop, coordinate, implement, and conduct safety training programs in English and Spanish.
Ability to plan, organize, and complete work as scheduled.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of safety files and records.
Ability to use a computer terminal to access, enter, review, and update computerized records and reports. Intermediate experience using Microsoft Office applications is required.
Ability to analyze and interpret safety laws, regulations, and requirements.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a must.
