Engineer-Traffic

Perform Daily/Weekly/Monthly wireless traffic analyzes across multiple wireless switches. Collect and analyze network LEC/ILEC/Long Distance traffic to project performance and growth requirements. Provide yearly trunking forecast to supporting LEC/ILEC/LD Carriers. Must possess knowledge of wireless to wireless and landline inter-connection concepts and traffic models to support switch-to-switch traffic. Issue trunk work orders to create and/or increase/decrease trunking requirements as traffic demands. Knowledge of switch translations and LEC/ILEC order systems, and digital communications. Comprehensive knowledge of LNP, Erlang Tables, LERG, and NPAC.
Must be strongly results-oriented with a demonstrated ability of effectively completing complex projects under time and budget constraints. Must be able to foresee and avoid obstacles to success. Manage network projects to support growth and performance requirements of the wireless network. Provide project leadership to ensure project deadlines/milestones are met. Communicate progress; manage risk, contingencies and market expectations. Ensure project teams are continually in sync with the fixed network team. Interface with external vendor organizations. Develop tactical project plans, accounting for scheduling and the deliverables, action item and resolution tracking, management reports and coordinate meetings with equipment and service providers.
Work with Area Engineering and Corporate organizations to transition to new policies and processes as needed
Job Requirements
Knowledge and skills:
Qualifications: Bachelor in Engineering or related technical field with at least 3 years experience in the wireless industry or 10 years equivalent experience. Three (3) years experience in switching and/or interconnect related software translations.


Thorough understanding of:

Switch and interconnect concepts and theory

Voice switch infrastructure including: Lucent 5E and ECP, Motorola MGX, and Nortel MTX.

Digital Communications including: DS1, DS3, and SONET.

Granite's Xpercom circuit inventory system.

Watchmark Prospect traffic data collection system.

Office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.

Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Excellent troubleshooting skills.

Perform job duties with general guidance and a thorough understanding of the job and the department's expectations and goals.

Decision making skills (making appropriate use of available information and data; making sound decisions with minimal support from Manager; and being responsible for specific projects or definable portions of larger projects or processes).

Thorough understanding of wireless network engineering principles and operations of IS-41C, HLR, VLR and SS7.

Working knowledge of capital/expense budgets.

Work independently with accuracy and attention to detail. Must be capable of handling multiple priorities in a highly evolving environment. Strong project management skills with ability to perform within a team environment.
