Engineer, Maintenance

Provides technical support to maintenance department. Provides analysis and troubleshooting as required. General Characteristics: Implement maintenance and capital projects and programs within accepted practices and codes in a safe and environmentally sound manner while achieving the highest quality installations utilizing cost effective designs.
Gives technical support to the Maintenance Department.

Recommends and implements upgrades.

Approves engravings, inspects work-in-process to ensure compliance with quality specifications.

Maintains appropriate logs and reports and performs other tasks as required by management.

Ensures smooth day to day machine operation.
Specific Duties: Supports the mill's safety improvement efforts in all areas. Identifies initiatives to improve safety, reduce maintenance costs, and increase mill efficiency or production. Manage major maintenance and capital projects. Coordinates training and startup for new equipment and processes. Completes post project documentation and maintenance records. Coordinates project teams comprised of hourly, salaried and contractor personnel. Plans, schedules, and coordinates major equipment repairs and rebuilds. Provides engineering designs and specifications for new construction, equipment modifications/ installations and process changes. Coordinates consulting engineers, equipment design engineers, and factory service engineers. Develops equipment and construction bid packages, schedules, cost estimates; conducts pre-bid meetings and site visitations. Evaluates bid packages and award contracts. Supervises / oversees on site construction. Performs equipment inspections and initiates work orders to correct or improve equipment and processes. Troubleshoots and implements long term solutions and programs to solve operating and maintenance issues. Facilitates root cause failure analysis. Provides maintenance engineering support to maintenance and operating superintendents. Manages facility preservation projects. ( concrete, steel, roofs, tanks). Provides weekend maintenance on call coverage. Required: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (BME or BSME), Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Engineering Technology from an accredited college. Experience with RCFA and preventive maintenance programs. Experience with Microsoft computer applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Project 2003. Knowledge of ASME, NBIC, ANSI and API codes related to equipment, tanks and piping. Strong commitment to safety. Strong organizational, planning, and coordinating abilities. Excellent engineering and problem solving skills. Effective communicator in a positive manner with a constructive attitude. Actively involves hourly and salaried personnel during design of projects. Team leader or valued member with good team spirit. Ability to initiate change and inspire others to accept change. Ability to recognize opportunity for cost savings and unsafe conditions.
Preferred: 5 years experience working at a pulp / paper mill or a major manufacturing facility. Maintenance supervision experience. Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. AutoCad experience.
