Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Engineer- Glass Mat Dryer to be located in Waterville, OH. This position will provide technical leadership to design and implement improvements in process efficiency, product quality, and the cost of poor quality for the division glass mat operations, primarily in dryer oven area. Responsibility for directing and conducting assigned tasks and/or projects in glass mat manufacturing operations, and ensuring that all safety procedures are followed, is part of this position. Key functions of this role is drive engineering project execution aimed at optimizing drying and curing processes and waste gas treatment in existing glass mat dryers in terms of flow and heat transfer in dryer operations and developing new drying technology for high speed wet-laid glass mat operations.Efforts on identifying and sharing best practices within the division manufacturing facilities will be an important part of this role. The person will work with or lead a fast paced multi-disciplined team, and must be motivated, inquisitive and like to work in an unstructured environment. The candidate must enjoy keeping abreast of the latest technology trends and have the ability to apply these technologies to JM business problems where appropriate. Good critical thinking skills, along with verbal and written communication abilities are needed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5 or more years experience in a technical position in manufacturing are required.Expert knowledge of glass mat manufacturing systems or papermaking operations, in particular dryer and oven operations.
Experience with analytical, engineering design calculation and problem solving skills.
Experience with CFD process modeling and equipment design with 3D CAD software.
Solid knowledge of key production processes and project management.
Good understanding of process control systems, process data collection systems, and process modeling systems.
Demonstrated ability in meeting aggressive program deliverables.
Must have a high level organizational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Excellent communicator with demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Solid computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and AutoCad.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An advanced degree in ME, ChE or Paper Sciences would be preferred.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
Experience with DOE for process improvement is a plus.
