Electronic Instrumentation Development Test Technician
SUMMARY:
Lays out, builds, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment and applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic testing and physics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other responsibilities may be assigned:
Develop and document the development of electronic products using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Designs include those used in the company’s products, test equipment and fixtures as required.
Discuss layouts, procedures, problems with Design Engineer. Draws, sketches design details and functional criteria of electronic modules and units.
Assemble experimental circuitry or complete prototype models according to engineering instructions, technical manuals and knowledge of electronic components
Recommend changes in circuitry to simplify assembly and maintenance.
Set up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental and life cycle tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production units.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Maintaining established policies and procedures, organizational objectives, continuous quality improvement, quality assessment and safety standards.
Interpret product design specifications, research and evaluate available component and packaging technology for cost, manufacturability, availability, alternate sources, performance and reliability.
Using ORCAD design tools, design and build library symbols, produce printed circuit schematic diagrams according to industry and company standards.
Using CAD tools, design and build library parts and route/layout PCB modules using techniques that optimize board manufacturability and promote EMC/EMI compliance according to industry and company standards.
Generate written procedures, bills of materials, wiring schematics, printed circuit layouts and document the various stages of the design in both hard copy and electronic copy.
Maintain libraries, schematics, artwork, documentation along with any other files on a secure and backed up system.
Where appropriate, design, document and include in the design various PLD (programmable logic devices) using various computer design aids.
Evaluate products and their components for logical layout, consistency with existing products and ease of use. This includes, but is not limited to, labeling, pinouts, jumper location, jumper orientation, indicator visibility and component accessibility.
Produce all hard copy and electronic copy documentation needed to successfully manufacture, program, configure and test the work product.
Provide support to production and QA for existing and new products or assemblies.
Maintain work area in a safe and tidy manner.
On a regular interval:
Attend various meetings regarding preparation of design requirements, design specifications, manufacturing issues, technical support issues. Participate with others in the qualification of equipment / component suppliers and PCB assembler contractors. Research and analyze new hardware and software tools and technology making recommendation as appropriate.
On an irregular interval:
Maintain an up to date library of technical data books by interfacing with suppliers and vendors.
Assist in the qualification of equipment / component suppliers and PCB assembler contractors.
Provide technical support and / or assist in preparing any documentation needed by QA or other personnel.
Ensure that electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers etc. located in the Engineering Department are properly equipped with working test leads, have the appropriate optional equipment and are maintained for proper function including traceable periodic calibration..
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience:
Engineering degree (B.S..) with post graduate studies or equivalent; or more than ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Detailed knowledge of digital design architectures utilizing microprocessors, FPGA’s, CPLD’s and power components. Detailed knowledge of digital design and communications and of Ethernet transmission.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Math Ability:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Database software, Contact Management; project tracking software; Engineering Design software for electronic hardware and software development
