E05110-Radiation Effects Test Engineer

Conform and support all NASA , Goddard, & MEI safety requirements and procedures As a Radiation Effects Engineer, the incumbent functions as a member in a working group of professionals that evaluate, analyze, and test spacecraft components and designs for radiation sensitivities in support of various branch flight and research projects. In particular, the incumbent will design and perform radiation tests on electronic and photonic components, develop test reports and analyses of radiation data, and develop and/or review project-related requirements and component utilization. Radiation effects testing will be performed at such facilities as Goddard Space Flight Center’s Radiation Effects Facility (REF), Texas A&M University Cyclotron, and University of California at Davis’ Crocker Nuclear Laboratory (CNL). Act as lead radiation effects design and test engineer for multiple branch projects. End products include technical reports and analyses. Incumbent is additionally responsible for interpretation of results for flight application. Support in the development of test reports based on radiation experiments. Supports branch radiation effects websites for inclusion of accurate data. Coordinates with other engineers, physicists, and technicians in periodic reviews to ensure that all areas of overlapping responsibilities are covered. Support branch data dissemination to the aerospace community including research project reviews, conferences, and technical interchange meetings (TIMs). May require other duties as assigned. Must have US Citizenship The incumbent must have detailed knowledge of electrical design of radiation effects test setups including appropriate PC-based CAD tools, radiation effects facility interfaces, computer-based test controllers such as VXI, and computer-based test languages such as Labview from National Instruments. Knowledge of hardware design languages such as VHDL are preferred, but not required. Knowledge of test facility constraints that affect test performance such as thermal and cabling considerations.
