Director of Operations (Shop Operations)

One of our clients has retained us to help them find Director of Shop Operations for one of their largest divisions located in Minneapolis. The growth potential for this position is significant.

Our client is an international Tier One manufacturer. The company has enjoyed unusually strong growth over the past six years and has been recognized for its growth and sound management.

The focus is to lead the operation to support planned growth of the business, drive significant improvement to achieve customer satisfaction, quality, lead time, on time delivery and process possibility. The Director is responsible for safety, quality, delivery and cost metrics in their respective businesses.

Director of Shop Operations will be responsible for EITHER: the consumer business which has a 95% market share. The business is high volume and relatively low mix of products. OR will be responsible for the commercial business. It is a low volume, high mix business. It is a made to order business.

ONE or the other.

Key responsibilities include:

Manages department as a business, working with teams to proactively meet customer requirements and to help teams achieve their negotiated goals on 5 key measurements of quality, safety, cost, customer satisfaction and capacity assurance
Provides overall management direction and leadership to teams by focusing on sound operating principles, coaching employees to develop critical skills, clearly communication strategy and vision, and helping teams translate those business strategies into their daily work
Promotes cross functional teaming and problem solving to effectively meet customer requirements. Provides the vision for ongoing production process improvements.
Takes functional responsibility for Shop Operations, Materials and leads the drive to excellence.
Develops and maintains a strong positive working relationship with core operations and materials functions at the local site.
Provide capable/qualified team members through management of work assignments, performance reviews, salary planning, hiring and staffing driven by Annual Operating Plans.
Collectively work with Engineering and Marketing to grow the Business.
Budget preparation and control.

Relocation is provided within North America.

Salary up to 100k
REQUIREMENTS
The essential requirements for these positions are:

Strong operations leadership in an assembly operation (min. 3yrs as Ops Mgr or Plant Mgr) with Minimum of 10 years of previous overalll management experience

Technical degree - Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is a MUST since this position has engineering personnel reporting to it also.

Exposure to lean manufacturing is a must
Time sent in the materials department and a planner, scheduler or manager is a plus.
Experience in quality engineering -- including use of tools such as FEMA, SPC and DFMA (is a must)
Familiarity with ISO 9000 and auditing
Past Six Sigma experience as a Sponsor, green Belt or Black Belt is preferred - but some Six Sigma experience is a MUST.
