Director of Engineering & Operations

Purpose:
ChicagoLand Television News seeks its next engineering leader, overseeing the broadcast engineering, IT, production and operations functions of the television station. CLTV, a 24-hour news channel, has an all-digital plant with video editing at the newsroom desktop and advanced automation systems for news and commercial playback. Our entire organization is dedicated to quality journalism, supported by technical innovation.

There is $1000+ available for relocation expenses.
REQUIREMENTS
This leadership position requires extensive experience in maintaining and troubleshooting a wide variety of broadcast equipment, microwave/satellite trucks, video servers and IT infrastructure. Candidate must exhibit an advanced knowledge of electronics, digital technology, networking, computer and network security, station automation, acquisition and transmission of TV broadcast assets along with broadcast-oriented digital content storage, creation systems and RF systems (microwave and satellite) as well as studio and remote production.

Candidate should be familiar with digital TV formats and relevant SMPTE standards and be able to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the latest emerging technologies in the broadcast and IT industries. The Director of Engineering & Operations will be responsible for capital and operating budgets, project management, maintaining Tribune Broadcasting engineering standards, and compliance with regulations and company standards.

Minimum of 5 years technical management experience in the TV broadcast industry or a closely related field is required. Must have proven ability to manage a technical staff, projects within deadlines and capital and operating budgets. Must be up-to-date with emerging technologies and have the ability to articulate and lead the station in future advancements. Candidates must have a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Technology or equivalent experience.

Strong communication and leadership skills are essential. This position is part of the senior management team at CLTV. Must be on call 7 days/week, 24 hours/day. Work assignments include outdoor work at remote locations, as well as within the station. Assignments may require lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and other duties as assigned.
