Design Applications Engineer

Purpose: Aerotek represents the leader in automotive safety, producing advanced active systems in braking, steering and suspension and sophisticated occupant safety systems for inflatable restraints, seat belts and steering wheels.

Specific skills: Working knowledge of basic statistics, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must have strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work in team environment. Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Experience: 3-6 years applications/design engineering experience.

Automotive experience preferred but aerospace can be substituted.

Education: BS Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace)

Physical Requirements: Must have hand dexterity at moderate speed with accuracy for half of each day. Requires steady, active effort and continuous walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work in all areas of the plant.

Responsibilities:
Candidate will be working with the customer to modify product designs to meet the customers satisfaction

Work to reduce cost for producing the part.

Support design, validation and release of airbag inflator assemblies in accordance with the Global Development Process and Product Introduction
Management System (GDPIM).

Responsibilities include ballistic tuning to support system level modeling and testing, release and approval of engineering drawings and documentation including test plans and test reports.

Responsible for all inflator application engineering support for assigned customer programs and inflator technologies. Responsibilities in this area include establishing detailed program timing, preparation of engineering development plans, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external customers and liaison with manufacturing operations to support new product launches.

Use of engineering tools such as fault tree analysis, DFMEA, statistical analysis, root cause analysis and margin testing.

Management of engineering development projects including value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) of inflators and components.

Responsible for planning and tracking prototype builds to assure on-time delivery to customers.
