The Database Engineer is responsible for analyzing, developing, and implementing the physical database design in support of Coldwater Creek
s business requirements.Position Responsibilities
Participates with application teams and business customers to design and implement logical and physical data models based upon application requirements while adhering to corporate database standards.
Contributes to the selection of application packages by attaining a thorough understanding of Coldwater Creek
s information requirements and describing how the application solution fulfills those requirements.
Transforms conceptual/logical database designs to physical database implementation. This includes designing indexes, database security, and referential integrity constraints.
Participates in application design reviews to ensure application and data requirements are adequately detailed and accurate.
Deploys the physical database design into the development and QA environments.
Develops documentation, and validates database implementation plans, including database availability requirements, performance characteristics, and database size requirements.
Creates and maintains database documentation that accurately reflects implemented systems.Skill Requirements:
3-5 years relational database design experience.
Retail background highly desirable.
Solid understanding of physical database design for performance.
Familiarity with standard data modeling applications (i.e. ER/Studio, ERwin) and common data modeling notations.
Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures associated with decision support and OLTP database environments.
Intermediate skills in design and management of OLAP (data warehouse) systems.
Familiarity with abstract data management frameworks (OWL, RDF, OIL, DAML, etc) is desired.
Experience in working in an n-tiered .Net and Web application environment.
Advanced skills with SQL Server 7.0/2000/2005, ODBC, and ADO (Stored Procedures, Scripting, Database Management, etc.) required.
Some experience Oracle or DB2 desired.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.Education Requirements
Bachelors degree in MIS, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
