Provide database administration support to the Census business area supporting Canada, United States and potentially UK Census programs. The individual performing this job should have strong Oracle 10g/9i DBA skills, excellent PL/SQL and SQL skills, strong analysis and troubleshooting skills, good understanding of database modeling concepts, have familiarity with Database Modeling tool, Oracle utilities (Export/Import, Data Pump, SQL*Loader, etc.) and Oracle Replication Technology. The individual should also have excellent communication skills, be able to effectively mulit-task, possess strong C/C++ programming skills, and preferably have experience with Microsoft .NET programming. A strong Microsoft Windows environment experience base is required along with detailed knowledge of all the Microsoft office products. Familiarity with Unix (such as IBM AIX Unix Operating System) and experience with interpreting all the database performance statistics collected vis STATSPACK or with an Oracle Database advisor such as Advanced Workload Repository (AWR) and Automated Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM) would be a plus. Past experience supporting live databases in a production environment is also necessary.The person should have excellent database administration and database modeling experience. Other responsibilities will require expertise in different backup and recovery strategies, such as cold/hot/incremental (preferably with Oracle RMAN to perform backup and recovery) as well as database tuning areas.
General Position Description:
Implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Conducts performance tuning of indexes and databases in general. Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization. May develop stored procedures and/or triggers.
