This seasoned professional will work within the NASA / Johnson Space Centers engineering community and will have a major impact on the development of Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) software avionics systems. This hands-on position involves flight systems architecture development including identification of design and architecture issues, using software modeling tools, trade studies, etc., to resolve issues. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, this individual will be very people savvy, possess a positive team-player attitude, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner.Job Responsibilities include: Conduct trade studies and utilize software modeling tools to develop avionics reference architectures for CEV flight software systems.
Utilize reference architecture to analyze and resolve software architecture design issues influencing flight vehicle systems and software design.
Perform systems engineering analyses by identifying requirements that drive the flight software architecture. Analyze architectural patterns and variations that most efficiently and effectively satisfy requirements.
Perform functional allocations across the avionics components.
Evaluate prime contractor design and implementation against the NASA reference architecture.
Sponsor system-level tests utilizing the new CEV Avionics Integration Laboratory facility.
Interface with NASA and prime contractor engineering teams.This work takes place in a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in the human space exploration initiative. The individual must share our passion for our Nations Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-piloted space exploration vehicle.Background and Experience: (including education, skills, work activities)(a) Minimum required:Must be a U.S. Citizen. B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science + 10-20 Years in flight software architecture, systems engineering, and development of human-rated aerospace vehicle avionic systems, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, or high-performance aircraft. The candidate MUST possess strong technical expertise combined with superior interpersonal skills including oral and written communication. Must be able to communicate positions on highly technical issues in an articulate, convincing manner. Must be a mature, highly responsible, team-oriented individual, able to work with little supervision, and possessing a strong work ethic.(b) Desired:Prefer candidate with experience in NASA environment developing avionics flight software. M.S or Ph.D. with emphasis in avionics systems or software is a plus.
