Controlled Atmospheric Brazing Furnace Engineer - (03-06-06)

Provide strategic, functional and technical leadership to production, maintenance and suppliers for all related brazing and leak testing equipment in the Aluminum Operations (AO) Department: Improve scrap and OEE of all related brazing and leak testing equipment used in AO
Enhance Vic. testers flexibility, cycle time and minimize impact of downtime on production Update and modernize equipment
Assist New Model engineers with the evaluation of new model programs as they relate to the current process. Drive for communization and share lessons learned to insure program/plant success. Provide cost and timing for any tooling or facility changes
Advise new model engineers on new technology / process and planning assistance for safe, lean launch procedures
Develop manufacturing process techniques, material flow, tooling designs and equipment specifications on all related equipment
Work with the plant ergonomic and safety teams to resolve any future/current model issues
Promptly identify and analyze equipment related problems. Analysis must be comprehensive, detailed and documented (look for root cause and permanent fixes and prevent reoccurrence vs. band-aids). Make decisions and take prompt actions
Create spare parts list for operators, maintenance and engineering. Insure long lead items that wear out are set-up in general stores or readily available. Improve efficiency of VIC White room
Set-up predictive maintenance schedules and insure adherence/completion
Implement Overhead cost reduction ideas through improvement in uptime and managing overhead cost
Work with UAW / Salary teams/suppliers to solve any production / equipment related issues
Create training manuals for engineering, operators and maintenance. Create gate reviews for New Operator Training. Train engineers, operators and skilled trades on the operation and maintenance of controlled atmosphere brazing (CAB) equipment. Examples: spray fluxing booths, dry off ovens, braze furnaces including helium and pressure decay leak testing
Perform metallurgical analysis on both radiators and heater cores for any brazing or core assembly issues
Work with product engineering to develop new model braze profiles. Assist them and the prototype department on special off shift runs
Maintain the braze profile sheets and all related leak test check sheets as required for ISO compliance. Work with the plant audit teams to close out any related non compliancesYEARS EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3-5 yrs of manufacturing experience with CAB processesDEGREE STRONGLY PREFERRED:
Bachelors in Materials Engineering or Bachelors in Metallurgy degree is strongly preferred. Advanced degree is a plusDESIRED COMPETENCIES/EXPERIENCE:
Material analysis experience is required for this position
Basic knowledge of heat treat process and leak test processes (with an emphasis in vacuum test, helium test and pressure decay) is also required
Use of Master schedules and project planning tools required; ability to work with hourly operators when developing lean manufacturing processes; working knowledge of CPARS, MEARS, and basic understanding of CMMS and WERS. Proven people skills a must.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (i.e. Overtime, Travel, etc.):
Support on off shifts and weekends as needed for equipment upgrades, hourly training and production issues. Minimal travel may be required
Work directly with UAW skilled trades and operators
Must have high business ethics
