Communications Engineer-Cooper Power
Purpose: Founded in 1985, Cooper Power Systems (CPS), with its combination of McGraw-Edison, Kyle, RTE and Kearney product lines, provides an unequaled array of products for substation, overhead, underground and in-plant medium and high voltage distribution systems. Their products include transformers, capacitors, voltage regulators, reclosers and sectionalizers, distribution switchgears, transformer fluids, distribution automation equipment, transformer components, components and protective equipment. Electric utility companies use these products to bring electric power to homes, industries, businesses, and institutions throughout the world . Due to the market demand, Cooper Power Systems is looking to add a Communications Engineer.
The responsibilities of the Communications Engineer include, but are not limited to:
-Develop communication protocol implementations for embedded microprocessors based on open and proprietary standards.
-Provide leadership and support for the communication domain of new product development projects. Determine communication related requirements and supply documentation to development teams. Participate in industry standards groups.
-Participate in communication testing aspects of control development including development and execution of test plans.
-Provide back-up support for commissioning of controls into customer communication systems including phone and on-site support.
-Participate in testing communication aspects of control development including development and execution of test plans
-Detailed written and oral communication including direct technical discussions with internal and external customers.
-Coordination of new products with development teams, documentation and assisting with strategic automation direction.
Skills & Abilities
Education:
BSEE/BSCE/BSECpE required.
MSEE/MSCE/MSECpE preferred.
Requirements:
-Knowledge of implementing communication protocols in an embedded environment along with problem solving techniques to verify proper operation.
-Understanding of modern data communications practices using open and proprietary protocols.
-Familiarity with integration of intelligent electronic devices with communication equipment such as modems, radios, and fiber optics.
-Project management experience in protocol development, compliance testing, certification testing and commissioning.
-In addition, one or more of the following qualifications is required:
-Understanding of electric power systems, particularly distribution system protection and control.
-Experience in SCADA or remote monitoring and control.
-Knowledge of DNP, Modbus, TCP/IP, and Ethernet communication protocols.
-Experience in development of industry standards for communication.
-Experience with software development using SEI CMMI.Classification:Direct HireCompensation:
