W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.'s Medical Division is looking to build a critical mass of scientists and technologists working on a portfolio of technology activities in support of current and future product development. Scientific and technical expertise relative to body tissue and engineering its response to implanted materials is critical to our current and future product development efforts. As part of this effort we have an opening for a Biomedical Engineer who will provide such scientific and technical expertise in a hands on manner, to enable technology development. The technology development effort will be in alignment with short term and long term business needs.Specific responsibilities and expectations include:
Partner with the technology champions and the business in determining technology development as well as fundamental science and understanding goals. Drive technology development projects in a hands-on manner. Be an internal consultant in area of expertise.
Be the key scientific partner for the technology champions of the various platforms. Participate as appropriate in the development and capture of IP. Participate in reducing early stage NPD ideas to practice. Facilitate technology transfer to Product Specialists and engineers utilizing the related technologies.
Assist in external collaboration and development efforts as needed.Qualifications
The candidate must have a minimum of a PhD in Biomedical Engineering or in other Engineering/Sciences with 4-5 years of strong research emphasis on topics relevant to medical device development and/or implant biology. Very strong technical abilities, combined with communication skills and a hands on approach to science and technology is required. The candidate needs to have demonstrated ability to drive technically deep projects both independently and as part of teams. Critical thinking ability as applied to problem solving is required. Research experience on biological responses to devices is strongly preferred. More specifically, a strong understanding and background in tissue engineering, from biochemical, cellular to macro level interactions with devices is preferred. Hands on experience, with various in vitro test methods, for analyzing cell / tissue response is, strongly preferred. Any experience in relating various in vitro analysis to in vivo performance is a plus.
