Aviation Operations Specialist

The Alabama Army National Guard depends on its extensive aviation network to transport personnel and supplies and to provide tactical combat support and intelligence when needed. The Aviation Operations Specialist is a Soldier who is an integral member of the Guard’s aviation team, helping to schedule and dispatch tactical aircraft missions and to perform the necessary associated operational administrative duties.

The Alabama Army National Guard is an elite group of Citizen-Soldiers who dedicate a portion of their time to serving their nation. Guard members train part-time to be ready full-time, should their state or nation call them to serve.

Major Duties

Processes cross-country and local flight clearances, including examination for conformance with flight rules and regulationsPrepares and maintains cross-country kitsChecks accuracy of flight plansCoordinates flight plans with all related agenciesMaintains flight information on inbound and outbound flightsMonitors, with the proper agencies, overdue flightsAlerts crash crew for emergenciesMaintains current file on aircraft flying regulations and navigation information, such as Army, Department of Defense and Federal Aviation Administration regulations, Department of Defense flight information publications and aeronautical chartsSafeguards classified materialEncodes, decodes and posts notices to airmenInterprets and posts teletype weather reportsPrepares and submits operators meacoming, intrusion, jamming and interference reports
