Description of Position:
To provide electrical, controls and automation support and supervision to plant process, distribution and utility operations. To facilitate Plant Maintenance and Operations teams in Systems and Equipment troubleshooting and in technology transfer. To serve as the liaison between the Plant and Corporate Engineering & Corporate Systems Groups in regards to automation and system integration. To assist Corporate Engineering and Plant engineering with electrical, automation and controls projects.

Education Requirement BS Degree

Experience: 8+ Years automation and control engineering supervision experience in a plant, corporate engineering or related experience in a consumer product manufacturing / automated distribution environment

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Electrical and Controls Design Engineering experience
Special process control experience in Distribution / Packaging, Process or Utilities
Familiarization with OSHA, USDA, FDA and EPA requirements
Project scheduling skills
WMS / AWS software proficiency, PLC programming proficiency,
HMI software proficiency and Proficiency with on-line data archiving.
(Wonderware, In-touch, Industrial SQL, Panelview, Factory Office, NT Server
and Rockwell Automation Software )
Process optimization experience and process troubleshooting
Knowledge and use of: data highways, Contrologix gateways, and Ethernet and fiber-optic systems.
Proficiency in multiple engineering disciplines including electrical and controls
Proficiency with PC software - Excel, Word, Power Point and Project Management

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:



Facilitate Plant electrical, instrumentation and controls projects in the Distribution, Packaging, Warehousing Operations, Dispatching Operations and Utilities areas, to confirm consistency with Manufacturing standards and control philosophies.



Engineering projects shall enhance the Quality of Company’s products, reduce cost per case, reduce Stakeholder and Customer complaints, improve system’s reliability and insure compliance with FDA and USDA regulations and provide adherence to internal Quality and ISO requirements.



Correct unsafe conditions, enhance the safety and health of our employees and

insure compliance with OSHA regulations.



Achieve active involvement and input from all levels in the Distribution & Engineering organization including hourly operators and maintenance personnel in all phases of project implementation.



Improve the Quality of Job Life through improvements in ergonomics, ventilation, noise control, and other means to enhance worker comfort.



Improve productivity through efficiency gains, yield improvements, recoup performance gains, scanning / inventory movement accuracy, labor utilization, and other rate improvements.



To insure projects are designed, managed and constructed in accordance with Company

Engineering Standards, external Engineering Standards, Company Capital Management,

Accounting and Purchasing Procedures, Company Engineering Procedures, and

Company Safety Procedures.



To provide technical supervision and support to all operating and maintenance departments to help in trouble shoot and diagnose issue related to PLC and WMS / AWS programs. In particular provide maintenance planning and technical back up to instrumentation / maintenance technicians in order to solve difficult control problems.



To facilitate technology transfer from Corporate Engineering, R&D and the Manufacturing Engineering Team to the Manufacturing / Distribution Operations and Maintenance Teams insuring proper startup and training plans. Train electricians and instrumentation technicians on new technology to allow proper maintenance and trouble shooting.



To enhance maintenance processes through equipment and systems analysis in order to identify opportunities for equipment or process modification, equipment replacement, or application of new technology.



To actively develop and implement cost savings initiatives involving waste minimization, productivity improvements and other process optimization opportunities through an active partnership with Distribution’s maintenance and operation teams.



To serve as a Technical Consultant to Distribution by analyzing system and equipment failures in order to troubleshoot problems and to facilitate maintenance planning activities, procedural changes or capital improvements.



To insure regular and thorough communication and collaboration with the Distribution Directors, Managers, Supervisors and hourly teams in regard to projects and other activities.



To develop, implement and monitor automation and control strategies and system architecture for the facility. To review designs by others, and to ensure adherence to strategies and Company specifications.





5. Standard Duties and Responsibilities of all Supervisory Positions:

A. Planning - Establish goals and objectives for subordinates with approval of immediate supervisor.

B. Organizing - Develop a sound organizational structure to assure satisfactory performance of all functions in assigned area.

C. Staffing and Development - Select, train and develop subordinates.

D. Directing - Plan and Assign work and set work schedules. Guide employees on a day-to-day basis by interpreting and explaining policies and procedures. Periodically reviews work performance of subordinates and discuss results of reviews with them.
