Automation & Advanced Process Control Director

Compensation:
There is assistance available for relocation.Supports development and application of process automation and advanced process control technologies and best practices to all Valero refinery sites. Provides technical and operations expertise in the design and development of major and small capital projects for new and updated process control systems. Supports the capital development process in technology selection and front-end engineering. Provides project execution support in controls project installation and start up. Evaluates new and emerging technology in process control and automation technology for application in the refineries. Establishes key best practices to improve profitability, basic process control systems, emergency shut down systems, advanced regulatory control systems, real time process optimization systems. Stays abreast of new / emerging technology. Conducts regular site visits to assist with control system troubleshooting and monitoring, project development, and best practices development. Develops long range plant automation vision "Refinery of the Future" working with plant control engineering staffs and communicate to executive management. Supports capital development process in technology selection and front-end engineering. Provides primary point of contact between refinery process control engineering staffs and key corporate functions such as process safety management and information technology. Supports due diligence efforts in regard to future refinery and other operating facility acquisitions.
REQUIREMENTS
Travel Percentage: 0%Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering required. Master's degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering preferred. Minimum fifteen years of experience in Refining and Petrochemical industry or allied process control consulting. Extensive control systems engineering experience in the area of basic process control systems, advanced process control systems including multivariable predictive control, process data historian systems as applied throughout all types of refinery processes required. Strong mathematics and statistical process control and analysis background required. General knowledge of petroleum refinery process flow and unit operations preferred. Field experience with control system start-ups, maintenance, and troubleshooting preferred. Effective analytical skills required. Demonstrated leadership and project development and design skills required. Good communication skills (written & oral) required. Strong interpersonal skills due to interactions both internally and externally required. Needs to be highly motivated and have the ability to carry a high workload. Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic, quick paced team. Strong personal computer skills with working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
