Applications Engineer-Composites

Purpose: This position is responsible for customer application support and development related to the use of initiators, specifically organic peroxides, for making composites, particularly in the arrears of spray applications/gel coats, vacuum infusion processes (VIP) and rotational transfer molding (RTM) applications, and other traditional processes related to tubs, showers, spas, and marine applications. Incumbent will be responsible for relationships upstream in the resin markets and getting product specified, along with assuring market support downstream at end-use application sites. Industry contacts and strong relationships should lead to multiple new product idea generations. Incumbent will actively participate in business team and goal setting for the composites team and provide hands-on laboratory work involving development of new products, applications and in-house evaluation techniques to simulate market applications and assess new market opportunities. 1. Develop and maintain understanding of marketplace influences and key contacts to build relationships with upstream resin suppliers and downstream users of products. 2. Generate new product deals based upon long-term market needs. 3. Support growth of product line by setting specifications with resin suppliers and supporting downstream applications at clients. 4. Train and support distributors on selection of organic peroxides. 5. Support application and product development in the arrears of VIP and RTM growth segments 6. Provide technical service when required to build the company as the leader in service, therefore allowing for new growth opportunities. 7. Compile performance data for competitive products that could lead to growth opportunities. 8. Manage laboratory experiments with technician to accomplish goals as stated above (25-30% of the time). Some direct laboratory work on new techniques for measuring product performance or competitive materials. REQUIREMENTS - BS or MS in materials science or polymer science, mechanical or chemical engineering fields acceptable. - 3-6 Years experience in the fiberglass reinforced composites resin manufacturing industry. - Excellent presentation skills; strong written and verbal communications a must. - Experience with resin formulation and applications preferred. - Key references from composites industryClassification:Direct PlacementCompensation:
