Applications Analyst

The Application Analyst (AA) has the responsibility for defining requirements for improving or replacing systems. This includes studying information needs for current and planned management functions and analyzing sources of required information and methods for obtaining data within the constraints of cost and time. The individual constructs and maintains the necessary documentation and artifacts in accordance with Carnival’s System Design Methodology (SDM) under the guidance of a Project Manager or senior personnel. In addition, the individual presents findings, recommendations, and specifications in formal reports and/or oral presentations. The individual is required to provide strong leadership to promote and foster professional development and growth among the junior team members. An individual in this position should meet agreed-upon deadlines and perform other duties as assigned.

The AA is able to design the architecture of highly complex systems, review and critique high level and detail system designs. An AA possesses very strong analytical skills and has the ability to troubleshoot and debug highly complex software code, conduct performance analysis, and suggest potential solutions for highly complex programs and systems. This individual provides leadership to and mentors junior personnel on the understanding of program objectives and has the ability to prepare detailed specifications from which programs will be written. The position requires the ability to plan, design, and implement highly complex application and system level designs.

The AA will work cases from the problem management software within a specified service level. This includes coordinating efforts between business groups and IT departments. On call, after hours support is required. Root cause analysis will be performed on selected cases as required by management.
REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for this position typically has up to five year’s comparable experience of which at least three years contain analytical responsibilities and holds a working knowledge of technologically appropriate tool sets and relevant operating systems. The Analyst is able to interpret related business processes and documentation. Highly effective oral and written communication, a customer-service orientation, the ability to work in a team environment, accepting guidance, and following directions are paramount to the success of the Analyst. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field or the equivalent related technical work experience.

Technical skills should include experience in analysis, design, and construction of highly complex client server software in n-tier Unix/Oracle and Microsoft/SQL environments using J2EE (XSL/XSLT, XML, JSP, EJB, and JavaScript), XDAPI, UNIX commands, and PL/SQL. Experience with webMethods and WebLogic Express is preferred but not required. Previous experience with procurement systems (Oracle, i2, SAP, etc.) is preferred.
