Application Support Analyst

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans, develops, tests, and documents system operations for various applications running in a Linux / UNIX environment. Performs application support by diagnosing and resolving issues, maintaining custom and package applications and by evaluating and recommending options for improving system performance and operations. Supports the Operations team by developing system operations methods and procedures, providing subject matter expertise on specific applications, and implementing application monitoring and management tools and techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Install, configure and maintain the production and staging application environments.

•Identify and develop tools, techniques and procedures for improving the performance, availability and reliability of applications.

•Develop, implement and maintain tools for automating application administration, management and monitoring.

•Develop, test and document operations procedures including; installation, maintenance; restart / recovery, monitoring and troubleshooting. Perform ongoing revision and testing of established procedures.

•Document and / or assist in documenting application logic, process flows, and configurations.

•Establish and follow a structured methodology for implementing system changes, configuration modifications and application upgrades.

•Develop in-depth expertise on applications, their specific use in our environment and potential application opportunities / risks.

•Respond and provide assistance to 24/7 Operations teams in resolving technical issues.

•Investigate, analyze and resolve technical issues and actively pursue mechanisms for preventing, or automating the response to, reoccurrences.
REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE
•Significant UNIX / Linux experience with multiple core technologies, including; relational databases, IP networking and internet technologies.
•Prior work in operations / administration, software development, system implementation and/or application support strongly desirable.
•Experience evaluating, developing / implementing and configuring tools to automate and support the operations, administration and management of complex (i.e. multi-tiered, web-based, UNIX based) applications.
•Significant experience developing methods and procedures.
•Experience with 100% uptime environment.
•Three to four years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
•UNIX / Linux administration skills, including significant shell / Perl script development experience.
•Experience installing, configuring and operating Apache, Weblogic and/or Jakarta-Tomcat web / application servers.
•Some web development experience highly desirable, including JAVA and JSP. Experience with Oracle RDBMS and IP based networks.
•Methods and procedures development experience.
•Documentation skills.
