Application Engineer - Cogeneration Systems

The primary focus of this position is to support sales proposal development for onsite power generation projects. Responsibilities include site surveys, concept development, technical proposal document creation including drawings & specifications, and development of cost estimates, including equipment, subcontract, and labor costs. Responsibilities: Review proposal specifications or sales statements of work, as appropriate. Determine applicable codes & standards. Verify jurisdictional authorities and local ordinances & requirements. Identify additional regulatory requirements as needed. Coordinate with local utilities to identify interconnect requirements. Coordinate development of process flow diagrams, electrical single-line diagrams, and general arrangement drawings. Develop preliminary specifications to support equipment pricing. Estimate equipment, installation and engineering costs. Coordinate all work required to produce a complete proposal package, including project schedule; documents & drawings to adequately define the work; project cost estimate; sufficient detail for sales & senior management team cost and risk review. REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline. At least five years of design or construction experience with piping, mechanical, and/or electrical systems in commercial buildings or industrial facilities. Experience estimating piping, mechanical and electrical construction & installation work. Cost estimating experience using multiple estimating techniques and data sources. Proven understanding of mechanical and electrical requirements for building or industrial process systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated strength leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Full-time, salaried position. Requires travel up to 50%. Long work hours sometimes required to support proposal and bid deadlines. Physical Demands: This position requires on-site investigation of existing facilities for the purpose of installing electrical generating equipment. Such investigation often requires accessing areas in buildings not intended for regular personnel passage. Crouching, crawling, and climbing may sometimes be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed professional engineer. Experience with electrical interconnects on utility network grids. Design, installation, or operating experience with power generating equipment. Experience with reciprocating engines and/or gas turbines in combined heat & power applications. Experience in a small business environment.
