Web Content Developer
POSITION: WEB CONTENT DEVELOPER
CLASSIFICATION:Professional
WORK YEAR: 12 Months
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Administer, originate, and manage website content including content criteria, navigation, links, and scripts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Collaborate with all departments and web-related groups to ensure a cohesive, functional and dynamic site.
Originate new content and repurpose existing communications in a text-heavy environment to facilitate ease of location and navigation of desired viewer information. Collaborate with administration, faculty, and staff on content, editing, and navigation needs of the site.
Support and assist in the Colleges academic mission, marketing, and promotional campaigns.
Cooperate with assigned responsible individuals in originating departments to collect content for posting, updating or correcting the information as necessary.
Collaborate with College departments to ascertain the completeness, accuracy, relevance, timeliness of data, and information posted on the MCC web site for audit and verification purposes.
Assist other college departments with advertising, marketing, recruiting, retention, and fund-raising using Internet technology.
Manage quality assurance by testing of the sites content including links and user friendliness.
Collaborate with others to establish content guidelines for the MCC web pages.
Recommend innovation and changes based on current developments in Internet technology.
Actively participate in web-focused activities on campus.
Assist the Director to establish web-focused initiatives and budgets.
Maintain documentation and provide reports of web site activities.
Cooperate with Network Services, Administrative Computing Services and Marketing/Public Relations to provide consistent methodologies.
Demonstrate an understanding of project management methodology and utilize project management concepts and resources in executing daily work.
Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelors Degree in computer science, web site development or equivalent work-related experience. Associates Degree combined with work experience will be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum two years professional experience in a similar position in a team environment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Requires demonstrated writing and editing skills, including grammar and proof reading.
Understanding of web-user psychology and use patterns.
Understanding of web database applications, and working knowledge of web applications.
Intermediate software knowledge and/or ability to learn Macromedia Dreamweaver MX , Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Project 2002 and Microsoft Project Server.
Extensive knowledge of HTML, Active Server Pages (ASP), SQL and JavaScript, and CSS.
Demonstrated experience in a Windows development environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to index, abstract, and catalog text.
Ability to edit text to meet established parameters which might include word count, space limitations, and stylistic considerations.
Excellent project management skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
Self-directed and able to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated background in successful teamwork.
Positive customer service attitude.
Knowledge of accessibility and ADA compliance desirable.
Bilingual, Spanish, highly desirable.
