Visiting Professor of Transformation

The U.S. Army War College seeks a Visiting Professor of Transformation for the academic year of 2007-2008. The term of service which begins 5 July 2007 is for one year with a possibility of an additional renewal year. The successful candidate will be hired under the provisions of the Intergovernmental Personnel Act which governs the temporary assignment of personnel between the federal government, state and local governments, and institutions of higher learning. Duty requires exceptional analytic, collaborative, teaching, and communication skills, as well as extensive experience in the application of the theories of systems thinking to include an understanding of complexity and chaos as they apply to the management and leadership of organizations (experience in both academic and business cultures and an understanding of each is strongly preferred). Responsible for preparing future strategic leaders in their understanding of, recognition of emerging possibilities for, and potential applications of the organizational dimensions (human, structural, and process) of transformation that are relevant to military organizations. Specific responsibilities include: administers and coordinates research; conducts original research and publishes in scholarly publications; prepares and conducts elective courses and directed readings for selected students; coordinates with external agencies concerning transformation research; plans, coordinates and conducts short courses on selected subjects related to transformation targeted at external audiences; serves as the USAWC representative at professional conferences, seminars, symposia, and meetings; provides advice and counsel to faculty and students on matters relating to the field of transformation studies; sponsors and advises selected students during the academic year on personal and professional matters. Substantial preference will be given to candidates with an earned doctorate degree in a relevant social science (management, leadership, systems, organizational theory, administration, psychology, sociology, or public policy administration) discipline.
