New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is seeking a leader to fill the position of Vice President of Information Technology on or about December 1, 2006. The successful candidate must have the ability to change a reactive organization to a proactive one with regard to the development of IT solutions by demonstrating a willingness to accept challenges. The Vice President of Information Technology/CIO is a new position, reporting to the Executive Vice President and serving as a member of the President's Executive Council.

NMMI seeks a candidate who will provide vision leadership in an information technology environment which permeates all facets of the educational and administrative functions of the campus. The successful candidate will have a Master's Degree or PhD in an appropriate field; excellent management, communication, team building and resource development skills; extensive knowledge in the development and application of information technology to both teaching and administrative activities; and the ability to work effectively with many user groups in a growing and complex institution. A broad knowledge of networking, information security, telecommunications, administrative systems, web technologies and user support services is also required. The Vice President advises senior leadership and the campus community on emerging information technologies and plays a key role in the support of the school's growing on-line education initiatives.

New Mexico Military Institute's technology infrastructure is one that is based on Window servers, Microsoft SQL, SCT Power Campus ERP, PowerFAIDS and Microsoft Great Plains. The network is segmented in VLAN's and uses Cisco self-defending network appliances for an in-depth defense; a gateway firewall, internal server firewalls, intrusion detection, clean access and client protection from Microsoft Defender and Symantec antivirus. The Institute has been integrating technology into teaching and learning for over five years. The Institute uses WebCT/Blackboard, Microsoft Sharepoint and other applications to make it a leader among 2-year colleges and high schools in integrating technology into learning. The Institute is a member of the New Mexico CHECS consortium for advanced network technologies and has an Internet 2 connection.

NMMI is a state-supported, college preparatory high school and junior college, complete with Junior and Senior ROTC programs. With a Corps of Cadets numbering more than 900 young men and women, NMMI provides an accredited college preparatory curriculum on the high school level. The junior college prepares graduating cadets for transfer to senior colleges. Since 1909, NMMI has been recognized as a Distinguished Military School. NMMI is located in Roswell http://www.roswell-nm.gov/ in southeastern New Mexico, a city with population of approximately 50,000.
