UTA Student Publications Assistant Director for Advertising

Provide a comprehensive advertising sales program and marketing presence for The Shorthorn (UT Arlington's student newspaper) and other projects within the UT Arlington Office of Student Publications.

Duties: Plan, develop and maintain the advertising sales program for The Shorthorn, UT Arlington’s award-winning daily student newspaper. Hire, train and supervise a student sales manager and 12-15 student sales representatives (including sales team leaders); one student marketing assistant; one student advertising assistant who coordinates the Metroplex PowerBuy advertising sales program; and one professional staff member (advertising business coordinator). Work with the student marketing assistant to develop a program to promote The Shorthorn. Generating advertising support for any other student publication initiated within the Office of Student Publications. Department operations are supported by a combination or revenue from ad sales and funds allocated from student fees. This position is responsible for developing sales programs that generate the revenue needed to support operations.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years experience in advertising or another field relevant to the responsibilities of this position. Preferred: Newspaper sales experience and student media experience at the university level. Must be able to work with, train, motivate and counsel students. Must be able to work under tight deadlines. Even though this person does not supervise our ad artists, an understanding of effective ad design is also preferred.
