Systems Programmer OR Systems Programmer, Senior

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a UNIX Systems Administrator to support, secure, maintain and integrate UNIX/Linux and OS X servers with the Windows desktop infrastructure within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences.

The relevant work experience and qualifications of the hired candidate will determine whether this position is classified as a Systems Programmer or a Systems Programmer, Senior.
* Responsible for the reliable, efficient and effective administration of Linux, Solaris and OS X resources within the college.

* Patch, maintain and troubleshoot operating systems for Linux, Solaris and OS X servers and workstations.
* Act as technical contact with vendors to specify hardware, software and application upgrades.
* Work with college faculty and staff to support specific research needs requiring application development and/or specific network resources.
* Perform and verify routine backups; manage tape library.
* Write required scripts, batch files, and programs to integrate desktop and server environments using appropriate shell or traditional programming languages and/or techniques.
* Monitor and enforce security of college network.
* Administer hardware firewalls and manage local security policies.
* Collaborate with and/or supervise other technical staff in support of database, application and website development.

REQUIREMENTS
Systems Programmer
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field AND two years of systems and/or applications programming experience; OR Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field AND three years of systems and/or applications programming experience; OR four years of systems and/or applications programming experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Systems Programmer, Senior
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field AND three years of systems and/or applications programming experience; OR Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field AND four years of systems and/or applications programming experience; OR five years of systems and/or applications programming experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

* Expert knowledge of Linux; specifically REDHAT.
* Expert knowledge of UNIX; specifically SOLARIS.
* Expert knowledge of OS X or BSD.
* Expert knowledge of Apache, Tomcat and IIS.
* Demonstrated expertise with hardware firewalls such as CISCO PIX and/or JUNIPER firewalls.
* Demonstrated expertise using the following: BASH, TCSH, AWK, C/C++, Perl, PhP.
* Demonstrated expertise with SAMBA.
* Experience with LDAP.
* Demonstrated expertise with Veritas Netbackup solutions.
* Demonstrated ability to integrate disparate operating systems, applications and platforms.
* Thorough knowledge of Windows and ability to integrate Windows resources into UNIX/Linux environment.
* Thorough understanding of the principles of data networks and ability to support internal high speed data networks.
* Experience with fiber channel devices.
* Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
* Ability to thrive in a team environment and be able to work autonomously to accomplish unit goals.
