Sponsored Projects Officer
Primary responsibility for review, problem resolution and signature for grant applications and awards for approximately one-quarter of the departments of the School of Medicine; review and sign designated correspondence to and from federal and nonprofit sponsors; serve as resource for sponsored projects questions and database access and use. Review and sign applications, awards and acceptance letters for selected grant programs from federal and nonprofit sponsors for approximately one-quarter of the departments of the School of Medicine. Communicate with faculty and staff to request corrections, solve problems and discrepancies. Review, resolve issues and sign/approve: all competing grant applications to non-profit sponsors, NIH competing F, K, R and T applications, noncompeting grant applications to both government and nonprofit sponsors, Prior approval requests and administrative updates for all grants; for example: No-cost extension requests, Just-in-time documentation, Pre-award cost prior approvals, Letters of request for changes of Institution/Investigator, Certification of human subjects and/or animal approvals, Final Invention Statements and Relinquishing Statements. Review Notices of Grant Award and other routine award documents, negotiate with sponsor regarding questions/problems, call unusual terms and conditions to the attention of P.I. and department. Interact with faculty and staff to provide instruction, assistance and advice on grant preparation and administration. Know and understand sponsor and University policies. Remain informed and up-to-date concerning events, regulations and changes that affect sponsored projects. Interpret guidelines and assist in applying them to specific applications, awards and problems. Assist faculty and staff with accessing and using grant-related electronic databases (such as ReSource, e-Commons and FastLane). Conduct specialized training courses for departments as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
B.A. or B.S. required. Must have at least 2-3 years of related work experience, with exposure to grant/contract process, preferably in a biomedical field. Need strong, accurate arithmetic, computer and typing skills, and excellent communication skills. Must be able to learn quickly, read analytically, and to write well and fluently. Individual must be detail-oriented, well organized, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and able to exercise mature judgment. Must be able to work independently after initial instruction.NOTE: A combination of less education, plus work experience sufficient to demonstrate the skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position, may be considered.
