Special Education Positions

Wordsworth provides high-quality human services to children and adolescents who have special learning, social adjustment, dependency or mental health needs. Individuals requiring a range of special services have access to individual plans for residential, day, placement, clinical and education assistance.

We have several positions available at our Ft. Washington campus. Please note which position you are applying for in your cover letter.

INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE – MH/MR (10-month school year)
Provide guidance, counseling, support, and direction one-on-one to an emotionally and behaviorally challenged student.

MENTAL HEALTH WORKER – APS – (10-month school year)
Provide daily crisis intervention & on-going informal counseling to students & parents. Initiate daily school attendance records & follow up on attendance with students, staff, parents, and outside agencies. Participate in developing & implementing alternative behavioral management strategies & reward reinforcement programs & provides support to classroom staff. Complete appropriate written reports for administration or teaching staff.

TEACHER – Positions Available in APS & MH/MR (10-month school year)
Evaluate and assess student instructional and behavioral needs. Plan, develop, and implement individualized instruction and therapeutic behavior management relative to the needs of the individual or group. Monitor and assess student performance and maintain appropriate records of academic performance, attendance, social acclimation etc. Complete appropriate written reports, plans, and records relative to the educational program in a professional and timely manner. Cooperate and communicate as a multi-discipline staff team member through formal meetings and informal consultations. Participate in formal parent conferences and other meetings regarding students and communicate regularly with parents/guardians. Keep current with state and federal changes in education policies and procedures. Supervise and evaluate auxiliary staff such as assistants, trainees, etc.

TEACHER ASSISTANT– Positions Available in APS & MH/MR (10-month school year)
Assist the teacher in the implementation of teacher-prepared instructional activities with individuals or small groups. Assist in the on-going implementation of the behavioral management program. Directly supervise children during non-instructional times. Accompany students in out-of-classroom activities. Perform other duties as assigned, including monitoring classroom and completing written reports.

REQUIREMENTS
INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE – MH/MR PROGRAM (10-month school year)
Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and 1 year experience providing direct service to children in a school or MH setting.

MENTAL HEALTH WORKER – APS PROGRAM (10-month school year)
Requirements: Three years related experience without a college degree. Minimum of one year related experience with AA or BA degree.

TEACHER – Positions Available in APS & MH/MR Programs (10-month school year)
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree. Certification in Special Education or ability and willingness to obtain certification.

TEACHER ASSISTANT– Positions Available in APS & MH/MR Programs (10-month school year)
Requirements: Experience working with children in a school, recreational or other mental health program.
