Safety Instructor
The incumbent is responsible for processing newly hired professional truck drivers into the company record-keeping system and responsible for testing and training on federal, state and company safety and employment policies. Duties include but are not limited to: conducting pre-employment testing; conducting orientation for new drivers; providing safety training on the use of company equipment, safe driving techniques and the like; and conducting safety compliance reviews for drivers at regular intervals. Perform all related safety or other duties as required or assigned at the safety service center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.1.Handle pre-employment process for newly hired professional truck drivers including the collection of DOT required information and documentation to certify that the driver is compliant with DOT and company rules. The pre-employment process includes collecting paperwork that certifies that the driver is able to drive a commercial motor vehicle; conducting road tests; setting drivers up for pre-employment physicals and drug tests; and ensuring that the paperwork is properly placed in driver qualifications files.
2.Conduct orientation for all drivers hired through the safety service center for all divisions of the company. Must utilize effective presentation skills to conduct orientation. The orientation process includes providing education and training for new driver hires on company and DOT regulations for safely and legally operating a commercial motor vehicle; providing information on company policies and procedures found in the Driver Manual and; and providing information on company benefits and incentive programs.
3.Ensure that newly hired drivers employment information is entered into the electronic personnel and safety system to include but not limited to pay information, work location and enrollment in company benefit plans.
4.Monitor in a proactive manner the activity of assigned Fleet Manager and Drivers for DOT Compliance, accident review, logging issues, and risk identification.5.Provide education and training of drivers in advanced defensive driving strategies.6.Oversee Personal Injury Prevention and OSHA compliance of assigned area.7.Provide education and training of drivers in high tech equipment; use of load planning system and how to make lateral moves in order to reduce turnover and increase profit.8.Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
REQUIREMENTS

Must already possess or have the ability within 1 year to obtain a Class A CDL w/HazMat Endorsement. Must maintain CDL in good standing, including DOT physical, HazMat endorsement and MVR within minimum current driver hiring minimums. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Required: Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License and Smith System Certification. Successfully completes Safety Instructor I training requirements within the 1st 6 months of employment and maintains minimum driver hiring and Safety Instructor I position requirements.
Preferred: Background in public speech, extensive knowledge of transportation, ergonomics and OSHA compliance.INTERNAL COMMUNICATION
