Program instructors are responsible to the Program Directors for the preparation, delivery and follow up of programs offered through the Environmental Education, Family/Conferencing, Adult Education and Community Center departments.

General Description

Responsibilities include:

•Developing an awareness of the natural sciences and in the interrelatedness of managing, conserving and consuming natural resources;

•Facilitating an appreciation of group decision-making activities and structured socialization experiences;

•Providing program excellence and a caring environment to ensure that guests have a rewarding and enjoyable and educational experience;

•Ensuring that students and guests participate in safe outdoor recreational activities;

•Maintaining and developing program areas and acting as support staff for kitchen, housekeeping and maintenance when needed;

•Promoting the mission and philosophical goals of the Frost Valley YMCA through responsible actions and professional presence while on the property or around guests.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

Instructors will provide programs to a wide range of ages that have vast socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS
Required Skills and Abilities

In order to be able to facilitate and lead the 50 different courses Frost Valley offers, applicants must:

•Function with a high level of communication and leadership skills,

•Possess the ability to implement and model excellent risk management practices and maintain a safe environment for students and visitors,

•Currently hold, or be willing to be certified in, Standard First Aid and CPR, and perform the tasks as required.

•Possess the ability to perform physically demanding work in the outdoors under harsh weather conditions on uneven terrain.

Policy Description

Entry level employees must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent life experience, preferably in environmental studies, outdoor recreation, education or a related field. All staff must have a firm commitment to guest service. Due to the various day and evening work hours, and in order to create a presence of security for the Frost Valley facilities, housing on Frost Valley property is considered essential to your job and a condition of employment, therefore; teaching staff with receive housing and meals, plus a weekly salary, the scale of which is based on experience.
