Prevention Specialist (139479-656)

Implements comprehensive community and youth development programs. Provide small group and classroom sessions on life skills. Educate school and local communities on the function and importance of prevention. Facilitate Family Support Programs and Collaborative Connections. Provide Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug Education and Prevention Programs. Educate School and local community on Technology of Development. Create Opportunities for Linkages and Connections that promote: Family Strengths, Community Capacity Building, Referral for Family Therapy and connections to Community Resources. Represent SBH as Ambassador to initiate collaborative partnerships for the purpose of providing comprehensive programming. Provide alternative after school activities and link families and other existing community resources.

Negotiate a School – Wide Prevention plan with school site administration. Provide Intercession Programs, after school, life skills for special education students, Summer Programs, & Family Support Services. Refer students to outpatient counseling. Attend SAT meetings when requested. Implement Approved Prevention Plan. Collaborate with Outpatient Counseling Services. Maintain Accurate Accountability to CYDP.

Use community networking and existing community resources, prevention, counseling skills and leadership development as necessary to facilitate treatment.
REQUIREMENTS Effective performance of the positions requires completion of Master’s in educational / behavioral science or related field plus a minimum of one year of duties-related experience.
Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently, along with the ability to maintain confidential records.
Spanish speaking highly preferred.
Knowledge of community networking and existing community resources, prevention, counseling skills and leadership development.
Ability to be sensitivity to diverse cultural, ethnic, and economically challenged populations.
