Course Developer – Distance Learning Curriculum



The position is in northern Columbus and requires educational course developers (2) for long-term contract assignment to begin November 1, 2006.



A successful candidate(s) will be partners in the development of new on-line courses, or conversion of existing classroom courses of instruction, directed toward clergy throughout the United States. These courses will be web-based, and will be collegially developed using Moodle Open Source development tools.



The course developer(s) must be able to tactfully and successfully interface with busy faculty or other subject matter experts; thoroughly and effectively research additional material as necessary; and convert classroom material into formats which support our distance learning initiatives.





Duties and Responsibilities of the Course Developer include:






Design, write, and produce online courseware by working collegially in a team led by an Project Manager/IT, frequently and productively interfacing with Subject Matter Experts and other stakeholders in the process.





Leverage proven recent experience in the development of e-learning programs, using software such as Blackboard, WebCT or other Computer Mediated Educational Software. Recent, verifiable experience with Open Source systems such as Moodle or similar Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP based development systems is highly desirable.





Apply Project Management processes to curriculum analysis, storyboarding, synchronous or asynchronous class activities, assessment questions, research or reflection assignments or other curricular elements.





Create performance support materials (instructor guidelines, student "how to use" materials, tests, quizzes, examinations, etc).





Recommend, develop, design and implement appropriate multi-media formatted material using a variety of processes, including RealMedia, Skype and others.





Perform verification, validation and field trial of completed courses.







Essential Skills and Experience:






A minimum of 4 years of online course development experience. Two years of experience may be waived by candidates with an earned graduate degree in Instructional Technology or a closely related discipline.

Experience in creating assignments and assessments.

Proven understanding and appreciation of structured instructional design standards and methodologies.

Proven track record of consistently turning out projects on-time and within budget

Able to maintain a cheerful, cooperative and positive attitude under pressure.

A Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Technical Writing or similar disciplines is required for this position. (An appropriate graduate degree will be viewed preferentially).
