Range A: $6,298.14 - $7,190.14* Per month
Range B: $6,749.14 - $7,729.14* Per month (with inmate supervision)
*This salary range includes pay differential enhancements to the base salary as authorized December 1, 2005, and applies to all Nurse Instructor, CF appointed to Adult Institutions and Division of Correctional Health Care Services only.
Additionally, R&R Bonuses are offered at all Adult Institutions as indicated below:
• $1,500 (one-time payment) – upon completion of one qualifying pay period (All Adult Institutions-applies to those appointed new to state service on or after 1/01/03).
• $1,500 (one-time payment) – upon completion of six consecutive qualifying pay periods (All Adult Institutions-applies to those appointed new to state service on or after 1/01/03).
• $1,000 (one-time payment) – upon completion of 18 consecutive qualifying pay periods (All Adult
Institutions-applies to those appointed new to state service on or after 1/01/03).
Base Salary
Range A: $5086.00 - $5978.00 Per month
Range B: $5537.00 - $6517.00 Per month (with inmate supervision)
Alternate Range Criteria
Range A: This range shall apply to incumbents who do not meet the criteria for payment in Range B.
Range B: This range shall apply to incumbents in positions approved by the Department of Personnel Administration's and the State Personnel Board's staff as having regular, direct responsibility for work supervision, on-the-job training, and work performance evaluation of at least two inmates, wards or resident workers who substantially replace civil service employees for a total of at least 173 allocated hours of inmates', wards', or resident workers' time per pay period. This range may also apply to employees in positions approved by the Department of Personnel Administration's staff as having direct supervisory responsibility over incumbents who meet the conditions stated above. Exception: Employees in classes that are eligible for the Institutional Worker Supervision Pay (IWSP) Differential shall not be eligible for Alternate Range B.

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
License: Possession of a current license as a Registered Nurse in California. (Applicants who do not meet this requirement will be admitted to the examination, but they must secure the required license before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
And
Either I
Credential: Possession of a valid California standard designated subjects teaching credential with specialization in vocational trade and technical teaching or equivalent credential. (Applicants who do not possess the required credential may take the examination but before appointment must have on file with the State Department of Education an application to secure the credential and must secure the credential. After issuance, the credential must be maintained by completion of any examinations and course work required.)
Or II
Experience: Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in teaching nursing or in staff development.
Or III
Experience: One year of working experience as a Registered Nurse. (Possession of a Master’s Degree in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience.)
And
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree.
Special Personal Characteristics: Aptitude for and interest in teaching nursing; empathetic understanding of patients of a State correctional facility; willingness to work in a State correctional facility; emotional stability; patience; tact; alertness; and keenness of observation.
Special Physical Characteristics: Persons appointed to this position must be reasonably expected to have and maintain sufficient strength, agility and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow employees or that of inmates and/or wards.
Assignments may include sole responsibility for the supervision of inmates or youthful offenders and/or the protection of personal and real property.
Qualifying experience may be combined on a proportionate basis if the requirements stated above include more than one pattern and are distinguished as “Either” I, “or” II, “or” III, etc. For example, candidates possessing qualifying experience amounting to 50% of the required time of Pattern I, and additional experience amounting to 50% of the required time of Pattern II, may be admitted to an examination as meeting 100% of the overall experience requirement.
Applicants must show their Registered Nurse License number, title, and expiration date AND their Teaching Credential number, title, and expiration date on their Examination Application (STD 678).
