Library Director

The Position:

City of Hope is seeking a Library Director to join its team. The Library Director of the Graff Library will have the opportunity to manage a collection of 13,000 books, 600 print journals and a multitude of online library services to support the academic, scientific and medical mission of the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute. This position will also oversee all aspects of library operations, including budgeting, usage reporting and management of six library staff members. The Director is also the primary advocate and liaison for the library, serving to promote the library’s services, organize educational opportunities for City of Hope and the surrounding community, and keep abreast on the latest technologies and trends in the biomedical library field.This position is a full-time position with benefits, located on-site at our beautiful campus in Duarte, California


Duties and Responsibilities:

- Develops library goals and objectives by maintaining knowledge of current trends in the national medical library environment as well as ongoing City of Hope & Beckman Research Institute initiatives

- Manages library’s operating budget of approximately $1.2M

- Oversees the selection, management, and development of department staff

- Directs and oversees the review, selection and acquisition of all library materials in both hard-copy and electronic formats

- Oversees systems for efficient library operation and user convenience such as circulation, shelving, cataloging, and inter-library loan

- Prepares and executes computerized literature searches for users

- Disseminates information concerning library services through direct instruction, as well as creation, implementation and coordination of educational programs

- Represents Graff Library, City of Hope and Beckman Research Institute in professional organizations affiliated with Southern California academic and research communities
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements

- Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science or Informatics

- 5 years experience as a mid-level or senior-level library professional

- 2 years management experience

- Prior experience in a biomedical / scientific library setting ideal, but not required

- Understanding of medical/scientific terminology and/or Bachelor’s degree in life sciences is preferred
