Please visit our job site for more details and to apply, http://jobs.pepperdine.eduDUTIES: Manage graduate school's (GSEP) server hardware, operating systems, databases, and applications; research, plan, and deploy new network and internet servers and appliances to deliver applications and services; implement, maintain, and provide support to server hardware and software, network accounts, and monitoring of server operation and performance as needed; investigate and evaluate new and emerging technologies and make recommendations for the allocation of resources and implementation of new products; solicit and collect feedback on the functionality and reliability of networked databases, applications, and services on an ongoing basis; make recommendations and improve systems and services in collaboration and consultation with University Information Technology and GSEP Technology staff; establish and ensure functionality of high availability, fault-tolerance, disaster recovery, and emergency notification systems and practices for GSEP systems; prepare, transmit, maintain, track, and organize paperwork for GSEP network accounts, databases, applications, servers, and appliances; create and maintain documentation for users of networked and Internet-based applications; solicit feedback and direct the continuous improvement of this documentation; prepare documentation and participate in briefings for University Information Technology on procedures for students and faculty use of GSEP server applications and technology; Research, plan, and deploy new services and applications for faculty, staff and students; assist with design, programming, and maintenance of web and database engines; develop, implement, and maintain applications and services as necessary to meet operation and instructional needs, including security updates and patches; develop and maintain scripts, APIs, applets, and other components to ensure smooth functioning of applications and GSEP web site; support GSEP's usage of University administrative systems and applications, including maintenance, retrieval, and analysis of GSEP student system files via EZtrieve scripts; implement and provide technical maintenance of databases and data relationships; consult with various user groups to ensure data access, availability, and security; maintain data backup and disaster recovery; create and maintain access and interfaces for data to be used in various networked and internet applications; provide back-up support in the broad area of GSEP client hardware and software support in collaboration with other members of GSEP Technology staff ;serve as a representative of GSEP technology in various campus committees and groups to ensure proper coordination and collaboration in the delivery of services and applications; travel to other Graduate Campuses to support technology as needed; participate in GSEP committees, informal work groups, and events as needed, including the annual Commencement; perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience; Master's degree preferred; valid California Driver's License; three years of relevant experience, including UNIX or Linux, Mac OS and Windows server troubleshooting and configuration, user technical assistance, LAN/WAN troubleshooting, and creating high quality user technical documentation and administrative technical reports; two years of experience supporting and administering MS SQL, MySQL, or Oracle; familiarity with Perl and PHP; demonstrated skill in microcomputer network systems analysis, design methodology, performance testing, and failure diagnosis; demonstrated proficiency using MS Windows 2000/2003 and MacOS X; understanding of LAN/WAN architecture, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wireless networks, and network protocols; demonstrated experience in researching, installing, and configuring CGI and other applications scripting in Perl and PHP; additional experience with C++, Javascript, and .NET preferred; demonstrated experience in creating, automating, and maintaining web and other Internet security and access control lists; experience with SSL preferred; ability to understand and work with relational databases, including MS SQL and MySQL and extracted flat files; detailed knowledge of business policies and standards with regard to computer networks including data interchange, software licensing, cabling, and asset management; ability to analyze information, situations, problems, policies, and procedures to define problems accurately and identify and implement potential solutions systematically; demonstrated organizational skills and ability to sustain productivity under the pressure of a heavy workload with multiple priorities and competing deadlines; demonstrated skill in writing reports, memoranda, and proposals that are appropriately organized, highly detailed, logical, and grammatically and factually correct; ability to make oral presentations and train users on various technologies.
