Supportive Work, Education and Training Program

This program is a transitional living apartment program, focused on providing the adolescent males in our care, (age 16 and older), with a mix of personal, educational, vocational, health, social and community supports and interventions, to prepare them for independent living and to promote their successful transition to a less structured independent living program.
The Educational/Vocational Specialist will be responsible for the overall coordination of the resident’s educational and vocational experiences. This includes interfacing with the school system, participating in IEP’s, PPT’s and other educational meetings, and developing individualized educational/vocational plans for each youth. It also includes running an interactive mandatory educational study group daily; one on one tutoring; and developing weekend educational group activities to include career exploration groups, outings and post secondary educational program tours and site visits.
This is a full-time position, with hours primarily during the afternoon, evening, and weekend when the youths are available, and with flexibility to meet their schedules.
REQUIREMENTS
Skills required include excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and a demonstrated team approach to treatment planning.
Qualifications required are a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and either a valid State of Connecticut Teacher Certification or Vocational Specialist Certification, as well as at least three years of experience working with an older adolescent population.
