Education Outreach Specialist - P/T

Chartered in 1746, and known as the College of New Jersey until 1896, it was British North America's fourth college.Position Summary: Princeton University's center for Mid-Infrared Technologies for Health and the Environment (MIRTHE) is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for science and engineering education to support its efforts in outreach to K-12 and the general public. A half-time position, the education outreach specialist will work with the MIRTHE director for education outreach and the Center's faculty to develop teaching modules and science fair projects for high school students while helping recruit talented students for summer internships. For the public at large, the education outreach specialist will work with MIRTHE faculty and graduate students to develop demonstrations and exhibits for The Liberty Science Center. The outreach specialist will direct public relations in science education for MIRTHE including the development of web-based and printed materials for education outreach and future careers for students in science and engineering. Administratively, the education outreach specialist will help support the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program held at Princeton and work in a coordinating role with MIRTHE's five university partners and their respective outreach programs.Job Function: Office or Library SupportGrade: BOS 020Standard Hours: 18.13Eligible for Overtime: YesJob Requirements
Essential Qualifications: The education outreach specialist must enjoy interacting with a wide range of people, and should enjoy an event driven (e.g. summer school, Liberty Science Center Exhibits) as well as daily routine schedule. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to work independently as well as in team settings. The education outreach specialist will have to set priorities, make decisions in a timely manner, and work under deadline pressure. She/he will be able to interact efficiently with researchers and students at Princeton and at outside partner institutions.Education Required: High School or Equivalent
