This individual will also serve as a liaison to all feeder schools and alternative educational systems.Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:Any combination equivalent to:• Associate degree in business administration, management or related fieldand• four years experience in an increasingly responsible position with public contact.License:• A valid California driver’s license.• An incumbent must be insurable at the standard rate by the employer’s insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.Representative Duties• Collaborate and coordinate with the College community and appropriate persons to develop and implement an outreach program and calendar that provides information about the programs and services of the College.• Design and deliver oral presentations and workshops for high school, junior high and elementary school students to include panel presentations, group presentations and one-on-one meetings.• Organize and coordinate information/recruitment fairs and financial aid/application workshops in the local high schools and other alternative education systems.• Educate prospective students and their families of financial assistance opportunities available at the College, including student eligibility for the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver.• Plan, coordinate and conduct informational financial assistance events for prospective and current students.• Serve as a liaison between the College’s Financial Aid staff and feeder school administrators, faculty and staff.• Initiate and maintain positive relations with feeder high school, junior high and elementary school administrators, counselors, faculty and with alumni, public agencies and community groups to develop recruitment sources.• Develop recruitment strategies and coordinate the development of promotional materials such as brochures, speeches, videos, posters and newsletters for use with prospective students, parents, and high schools.• Plan, coordinate and host events on campus and in the community for the overall marketing and recruitment of the College.• Schedule campus visitations for prospective students.• Report current information on enrollment trends.• Keep abreast of educational and student support programs to provide accurate and timely information about the college.• Train and provide work direction for student assistants and ambassadors to help with projects, including recruitment activities.• Serve as the College’s clearinghouse to coordinate outreach activities, including requests for presentations, visitations and communication with feeder schools.• Operate a computer and related equipment and software.• Perform related duties as assigned.Conditions of Employment• Salary is at Range 32 AA ($15.15 hourly / $2,626 monthly).• Salary increase after 6 months of satisfactory service.• Minimum 5% increase if promoted.• 10–working month probationary period.• Union membership upon employment.• District paid medical/dental/vision insurance program for employee and dependents.• PERS retirement contribution is District paid.• Employee life insurance ($100,000) is provided.Working Conditions

Description of PositionCollege of the Sequoias is seeking a candidate to fill a full–time tenure track position in the Biology Department beginning January 2007. The primary teaching assignment will be general education biology and plant biology. Other teaching assignments may include biology majors courses or human anatomy. Assignment may include evening classes or classes located at our satellite campuses.Participation in the governance of the College by way of committee assignments is encouraged. Other responsibilities include maintenance of a required number of office hours to meet student needs, participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equality, justice, and appreciation for diversity throughout our College.Minimum QualificationsThe candidate must meet one of the following criteria.The degree must be from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent.• Master’s in any biological scienceor• Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine scienceor• The equivalent as determined by the COS Academic Senate.Candidates claiming equivalency must demonstrate a combination of education and other accomplishments that are equivalent to the MQ’s. If claiming equivalency, you will need to read the Board Policy 5001 on equivalency and prepare a statement documenting how you feel you meet the equivalent qualifications.Note: Candidates claiming equivalency must receive a judgement of equivalency from the COS Equivalency Committee prior to the interview.Desirable QualificationsIn looking at application materials, the Hiring Committee also seeks evidence of the following:• Teaching experience in general biology, botany and ecology.• Teaching experience at the community college level.• Graduate and/or undergraduate coursework in general biology, botany, animal biology, ecology and cell biology.• Familiarity with the educational needs of community college students intending to transfer.• Experience in and/or commitment to working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability backgrounds.• Ability to make a positive contribution to the instructional program at College of the Sequoias by developing instructional activities, course syllabi, and other necessary materials.• Ability to incorporate student learning outcome objectives within courses and programs and willingness to develop and use stated objectives and measures.• Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modes, such as web-based or on-line instruction, multi-media systems, cooperative learning, or integrated curricula.Conditions of EmploymentSalary is commensurate with education and experience.Initial placement with Master’s degree ranges from $49,138 to $64,785.District paid medical/dental/vision insurance program and $100,000 employee life insurance is provided.Contract period is for ten (10) months during the regular academic year August through May.This position begins January 2007.There is the possibility of teaching a summer session class.A collective bargaining agreement exists, and membership in the College of the Sequoias Teachers Association (COSTA) or payment of a service fee is required.Screening Procedure
