Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.Under the direction of the Dean, External Relations, the Grants Specialist will be responsible for supporting faculty and staff in the securing and management of corporate, foundation and government grants. Responsibilities include identification and writing of grant proposals that support and reflect institutional priorities, researching and disseminating grant opportunities, and developing relationships with private and corporate foundation staff and board members.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES1.Works independently to research, identify, and maintain database of external opportunities that present viable funding potential and that match District goals and priorities.
2.Plans and coordinates development and submission of proposals.
3.Writes letters of inquiry and cover letters for grants.
4.Writes or edits and reviews grant proposals. Works closely with faculty to develop programs for grant funding.
5.Coordinates meetings and site visits with program officers; contacts appropriate faculty and administrators on campus.
6.Facilitates grant workshops for faculty, staff and administrators.
7.Develops relationships with private and corporate foundation staff and boards.
8.Independently monitors and reports regularly to appropriate offices the status of assigned grants.
9.Works collaboratively with the Institutional Planning and Research office to collect data for grant development.
10.Coordinates with the Dean to identify and plan solicitations to board members of local private foundations.
11.Develops budgets and budget narratives for proposals.
12.At the request of a supervisor, performs a variety of unscheduled duties normally and traditionally performed by a Grants Specialist.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience in grant writing or development. Requires excellent writing and editing skills. Experience in working with budgets. Attention to detail, strong research and computer skills. Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize multiple projects.Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of grant proposal formats, preparation, submission, and administration, as well as federal, state, and private granting agency regulations. Knowledge and ability to use various search tools for identifying new grant opportunities. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines for grant opportunities; provide necessary documentation to support requirements; read, interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations; plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects; gather, analyze and evaluate a variety of data relating to grant development and reporting; give tours and presentations before both large and small groups.APPLICATION PROCESSA DISTRICT application form, cover letter, resume, and transcripts are required and must reach the Office of Human Resources by 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2006.
