Director of Research and Evaluation
The Director of Research and Evaluation leads New Leaders’ national research and evaluation efforts and plays a key role in assisting the organization in meeting its priority of being data-driven. The DRE leads and/or contributes to internal research activities by conducting data collection, analysis, and reporting on the implementation and impact of the New Leaders model. The DRE works with the Chief Data and Accountability Officer and other team members and collaborates with colleagues across the organization to provide data and analysis to support ongoing learning and planning. The DRE also plays an integral role in the management and implementation of external evaluation activities.
Responsibilities:
•Leads the development and implementation of New Leaders overarching longitudinal research agenda.
•Conducts ongoing research projects on various topics as part of New Leaders research agenda.
•Leads internal analysis and reporting of student achievement data.
•Leads analysis and assists with reporting of internal statistics and metrics (e.g., placement and retention rates, internal survey metrics, etc.).
•Manages collection of school-level achievement and demographic data.
•Manages relationships with district partners around data, research, and evaluation through:
-Working directly with district counterparts to request and receive school- and student-level data;
-Maintaining up-to-date research protocols in each district;
-Serving as liaison between external research partner(s) and district partners around data needs.•Manages external research and evaluation efforts through:
-Contributing to design, implementation, and oversight of external research projects;-Ensuring high-quality, on-time deliverables and developing and implementing strategies to share results;
-Working with external research team(s) around district data protocols and requests and management of data.
•Collaborates with the Director of Organizational Learning to provide data and analysis to other New Leaders teams (at city and national levels) to assist organizational planning and learning as part of broad efforts to promote cross-organization collaboration and data-driven reflection and planning.•Contributes to reporting of results to staff, community members (including New Leaders Principals and Residents), stakeholders (including funders and New Leaders’ Board of Directors), and the public.
REQUIREMENTS
•Passionate belief in the mission of New Leaders for New Schools, which is to foster high levels of academic achievement for every child by attracting, preparing, and supporting the next generation of outstanding principals for public schools across the nation.•Master’s Degree in education, public policy, psychology, statistics, or a related field required; Doctorate a plus.
•Minimum 3 years experience conducting all phases of education-related research, including study design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
•Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods, particularly including statistical skills needed to conduct analysis of student achievement outcomes.•Experience in the K-12 urban education sector, or a strong familiarity with the issues and challenges of K-12 education.
•Knowledge of field of accountability and assessments in education; specific knowledge of some or all state assessment systems of current New Leaders partners a plus.
•Strong strategic thinking and planning, organization, and project management.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills, comfort in presenting to a diverse range of audiences.•Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a team.•Strong record of high-quality performance and success in meeting goals.•Expertise with SPSS or other statistical software.Other details:
Team description: This position falls within the Data and Accountability Team and directly reports to the Chief Data and Accountability Officer. This team collects and analyzes data to track the success of New Leaders principals, measure organizational success, and provide information across the organization to drive continuous learning and improvement. They form organizational strategies around data, research, evaluation, and accountability in order to reach our goal of training and supporting 2,000 New Leaders impacting 1 million students within 10 years.
