Consumer/Family Educator (MR/DD Waiver Program)

Reports to Director of MR/DD Waiver ProgramThe Consumer/Family Educator for the APS MR/DD Waiver Program is responsible for developing and implementing educational programs to promote an understanding that will assist the system and all stakeholders to support and implement a Person Centered Model, as it relates to families involved in the MR/DD waiver process. The Consumer/Family Educator will conduct in-depth focus. The Consumer/Family Educator supports the ASO processes that enhance Person Centered Planning.The Consumer/Family Educator works to provide education and empowerment to those individuals receiving MR/DD Waiver services; promotes volunteerism and assist communities in developing alternative or complimentary services that support clinical care. The Consumer/Family Educator educates providers about consumer choice and empowerment, as well as identifying and reporting on needed services and quality of care. REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
Knowledge base of client rights and advocacy issues Community involvement in and participating with various non-profit entities that include consumers, families and youth as related to MR/DD Wavier issues a plus Direct knowledge and experience with individuals receiving MR/DD Waiver services Strong speaking skills Ability to deal with constituents in a professional manner at all times Experience in West Virginia MR/DD Waiver system desirable
Education:
Bachelors Degree in psychology, social work or related field preferred and equivalent experience in the MR/DD wavier services arena required.
