Computer System Administrator

Position: Computer System Administrator, 12
month, non-classified
Responsibilities: Manages, maintains, and
upgrades the linux and unix networks and clusters
within the College of Engineering for instruction
and research; designs and implements complex local
and wide-area networks and clusters of linux-based
machines; provides computer and software support
for College of Engineering instructional laboratories;
provides assistance to the College of Engineering
windows-based network administrator; works
under general direction from the Computer Science
faculty and the College of Engineering administration;
recommends policies on system use and services;
provides technical lead to system programmers,
or others of equivalent seniority; has responsibility
for recommending and justifying computing equipment
purchases; and provides input to, and attends
meetings of, the College of Engineering Computing
Resources Committee.
Minimum Qualifications: Four years previous system
administration experience. Expertise in linuxand
unix-based systems and networks. Expertise in
windows based systems and networks (secondary).
Preferred Qualifications: Degree in computer science
or a related field. Extensive programming background
in any applicable language. A sufficient
understanding and interest in computer hardware,
devices, and architecture.
