Child/Parent Educator

Trust House Family Learning Center in Hartford, CT is looking to hire a full-time Child/Parent Educator. This position includes occasional evening hours. An Associate Degree in Early Childhood or related field (pertaining to children) is required with one additional year of experience related to the care of children.

Educator must be able to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development of children. School Readiness and Family Literacy are a very high priority. Bilingual ability in English/Spanish is preferred but not necessary.

An authorized background check for child abuse and neglect with pre-employment TB Test is required.
REQUIREMENTS
• While parents study in the Adult Education Program at Trust House, the Child and Parent Educator is responsible for children between three months and four years of age in the Children’s Room
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning activities for children from toddlerhood through four years of age
• Work closely with volunteers who provide support in the Children’s Room
• Intensive training provided to administer and score developmental screenings (Ages and Stages)
• Maintain data collection for reporting purposes
• Provide constant supervision of children at all times
• Provide positive guidance to children including redirection, positive language, and positive reinforcement
• Assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of the children
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom
• Possess adequate computer skills (Word, Excel)
• Participate in ongoing training sessions
• Conduct home visits. Provide literacy-based curriculum (Parents as Teachers) to parents and children in their homes
