Child Development Specialist
OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Director of Ancillary Services or lead child development personnel, provides hands on assessment and intervention to high-risk infants/toddlers referred to the CFIS department, as well as for special needs children referred to the Community Toddler Enrichment Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs screening and evaluations (developmental milestones; pre-speech; other areas of development) and reevaluations as needed, and makes appropriate follow-up recommendations.
May assist in the development of curricula for postnatal infant care and stimulation and toddler classes. Measurable by attendance to scheduled classes.
Provides individual (for Home Visits see “g” below) and/or group stimulation to the 0-3 age group. Child's progress, parental feedback, and observation of sessions will be utilized for evaluation by supervisor. When conducting group stimulation for toddlers, such will be conducted in pre-school/childcare settings through mobile services, or as lead teacher for Community Toddler Enrichment Program. For the latter, duties will include:
a) Supervise classroom management and class routine.
b) Plan and supervises curriculum and activities
c) Participate in IFSP meetings and in the transition process.
d) Perform and coordinates appropriate observations and assessment needed to monitor child and family progress.
e) Responsible for compiling data, and completing paperwork.
f) Maintain up-to-date records on all children participating in the Community Enrichment Program.
g) Provide Home Visits (schedules home visits, maintains regular communication and shares information with parents/caregivers; provides and models developmental intervention; monitors child and family progress in the home; completes required paperwork; assesses the need for, and requests consultations by specialists -- OT, PT, SLP, behavior – and assessed the home environment).
Maintains up-to-date, accountable records (i.e., session logs; progress reports; evaluation reports; attendance forms, etc.) and correspondence, as needed.
Conducts conferences, i.e., patients' needs, with allied professional personnel, or parent training for promoting carryover in the home environment through development of home programs.
Assists program director with ongoing development of procedures to maximize productivity and revenue.
Performs other duties as requested by the Department Director.
REQUIREMENTS
B.A. in Child Development, psychology or equivalent field with additional coursework in Special Education or related field desirable or equivalent experience. Will consider applicants completing BA end of 2006.
a)Continuing education through professional workshops and institutes. Familiarization/use of diagnostic tests and infant-parent programs.
b)Own vehicle and valid CA Drivers License and automobile insurance as required by law.
Bilingual in Spanish/English required.
