You will be doing meaningful work in which you will be helping to
improve and enrich the lives of disadvantaged children, youngsters and
adults with behavior problems or developmental disabilities. The
work will leave you with a good feeling about yourself at the end of
the day. Our program is extremely effective in teaching and
changing the behaviors of youngsters who have taken the wrong turns
earlier in their lives or who may be developmentally disabled. We have
actually saved the lives of many of our students.
We offer a career path leading to a Massachusetts teaching
certification. This path is open to qualified persons who start work
with us as a Mental Health Assistant and who do superior work in that
capacity. An employee who is invited to become a teacher-trainee works
8-4 on weekdays at JRC's school building in Canton. The teacher-trainee
takes one or two classes in education per semester, at a college of his
or her choice. JRC will adjust the employee's schedule to accommodate
these classes. JRC pays for the classes and arranges for the employee
to receive a teaching waiver from the Massachusetts Department of
Education. When a waiver is obtained, the employee's salary increases
to $30,000 and he/she is given 10-week annual paid vacation. A
teacher-trainee who has obtained the teacher's waiver receives a $1,000
salary increase each year. When a teacher-trainee receives full teacher
certification, his/her salary increases by an additional $5,000.
Duties of this position will include:
Supervises and provides instruction to students, both in group
management and one to one situations
Writes weekly lesson plans which indicate the goals and
objectives/benchmarks in IEP
Submits weekly lesson plans to the Director of Education each
Friday
Completes necessary paperwork on time, including academic books,
charting, daily academic contracts, report cards and quarterly
reports
Maintains Academic charts
Must be available four times per year to meet with parents on
scheduled Parent Visiting days.
REQUIREMENTS
20/20 vision or correctable to 20/20 with corrective lenses
Good communication skills in English
Exhibit knowledge of state/federal educational guidelines for
multi-handicapped population
Ability to maintain a professional attitude toward, and distance
from, JRC students and clients
Able to react to change productively and handle other essential
tasks as assigned
Sufficient physical and endurance and stamina to work in a fast
paced environment EOE/AA
